Privacy Policy

This website is owned and operated by Rachael Steele. You may contact us any time from our  page or via email.

Hi! I’m Rachael Steele, an artist, blogger, and novice writer of legal policies. Even though I write using “we” throughout this page, as of the last edit I am the sole author and designer of The Authentic Artisan.

What Data we Collect & Why we Collect it

Users and site visitors may have personal data collected, such as name, email address, personal account preferences; transactional data, such as purchase information; and technical data, such as browser information, IP address, and information about cookies.

This data collection occurs from normal page views and user interactions, as well as being generated from technical processes such as comments, contact forms, analytics, cookies, third party embeds, and placing orders through the (not implemented) Shopify Buy Now button.

Information is collected as needed for site operation and optimization, and communication with you. Also, with preference you have given to us, we provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

This site is built on the WordPress platform which does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users.

This site uses cookies. Cookies are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier to help the site provide a better user experience. In general, cookies are used to retain user preferences, store information for things like shopping carts, and provide anonymous tracking data to third party applications like Google Analytics.

We also use third party advertisements on to support our site. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP, the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to a frequent visitor of cooking sites).

As a rule, cookies will make your browsing experience better.  The most effective way to disable or selectively turn off our cookies and/or third-party cookies is to disable cookies in your browser. However, this can affect how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites including the inability to login to certain websites.

Please see our Cookie Policy for details about cookies and how to adjust them to your liking.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. Your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your successfully published comments.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. See Askimet below for more detail.
