Hi! I’m Rachael Steele, an artist, blogger, and novice writer of legal policies. Even though I write using “we” throughout this page, as of the last edit I am the sole author and designer of The Authentic Artisan.
What Data we Collect & Why we Collect it
Users and site visitors may have personal data collected, such as name, email address, personal account preferences; transactional data, such as purchase information; and technical data, such as browser information, IP address, and information about cookies.
This data collection occurs from normal page views and user interactions, as well as being generated from technical processes such as comments, contact forms, analytics, cookies, third party embeds, and placing orders through the (not implemented) Shopify Buy Now button.
Information is collected as needed for site operation and optimization, and communication with you. Also, with preference you have given to us, we provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.
This site is built on the WordPress platform which does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users.
We also use third party advertisements on theauthenticartisan.com to support our site. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP, the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to a frequent visitor of cooking sites).
As a rule, cookies will make your browsing experience better. The most effective way to disable or selectively turn off our cookies and/or third-party cookies is to disable cookies in your browser. However, this can affect how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites including the inability to login to certain websites.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. See Askimet below for more detail.
Who we Share your Data with
Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third-party products or services on our website. These third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites; nonetheless we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any and all feedback regarding these sites.
We use Google Analytics to analyze browsing behavior (track pages visited, length of time on pages, etc.) to optimize the site, and to use for relevant marketing and advertising campaigns. Google may use the Data collected to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.
Social networks and platforms
Our website frequently interacts with social networks or other external platforms directly as subject to your privacy settings for each social network. We might still collect traffic data for the pages where the service is installed, even when you choose not to use it.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
How Long we Retain your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What Rights you have Over your Data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you with the exception of any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Do Not Track Requests?
We do not respond to web browser Do Not Track signals at this time. Something will be implemented in the future, so we will be keeping an eye on the policy community/industry for advancement. We hope you exercise choice regarding the collection by third parties about your online activities for interest based advertising purposes by going to aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com.
Should the changes affect the consent of any reader, commenter, or browser, we shall collect new consent from you as required.
